Data & credits

Place names, coordinates and classifications come from Wikidata structured data (CC0). Every place in the bank links to its Wikidata record. Common alternative names from Wikidata are accepted, along with spelling variants Wormillion adds itself.

Obscurity comes from Wikimedia daily user pageviews: a place's average daily English-Wikipedia views over the last 59 complete days, times 30 for a month, ranked within its category. The newest day is left out until it is complete, and a place whose views failed to load is checked again before it can score.

The game, the place bank and the pixel scene were rebuilt for version 2.0. Accounts, profiles and saved digs carried over; scores from the rebuilt game count in a new season.

Artwork & type

The worm avatars, level crests, badges, medals and ores, and the relics and pictures hidden in the game, were generated for Wormillion with AI image tools and reduced to pixel sprites. The world map on profiles is drawn from Natural Earth (public domain). Atkinson Hyperlegible is by the Braille Institute and distributed under the SIL Open Font License. Social and sign-in icons come from Simple Icons (CC0) and identify their services.
